About the Book

There is a misconception out there: that baking from scratch is hard

Let me assure you, it's not. Every recipe in this book has been made by kids, the youngest was a mere 5 years old when I began to teach her. Thankfully my dear friend let me borrow all three of kids during the course of writing this book. They all helped test the recipes out, as I have a bad habit of not measuring, and none of them knew the difference between a liquid measuring cup and a dry measuring cup.

This book started as a gift of love for friends and family and quickly took on a life of it's own. I spent a little over 18 months testing recipes, writing down measurements, having "beta tasters" test new combinations I was trying out, and then it was a few more months of formatting, getting pictures taken (which required more baking), and finally getting the eBook published. The paperback came along a month later.

The fun part was that all the work was done locally. My friends were willing to trade their photography services in exchange for being named on the cover of the book and taking the goodies home. Formatting was done by a local, brilliant, young woman who is wickedly skilled at social media and marketing.

Friends and family suggested names for the book and the sections, voting was held, and the winning names were used.

There are over 60 recipes (many with variations noted in the recipe), all are kid-friendly, and easy to follow for the novice baker. "Mary's10 Commandments of Baking" are at the start of the book; they usually cause at least one chuckle.

Snickerdoodles started it all, and well deserved their spot as the first recipe in the book.

If you have a chance to buy the book, I hope you enjoy it! If you like to "try before buying", the recipes on this blog are also in the book. Or, stop by one the events I'll be attending this year and take a taste test. I have cookies wherever and whenever I'm allowed to bring them, what better way to sell a cookbook that to provide samples?
